Our Backyard: Tulips Galore!

Picnik_collage_tulips_1

Holy smokes!  Here are the pretties.

They are the stars of our backyard.  It's too bad they don't last through the entire summer.  They help us greet spring and then quickly say goodbye.  I suppose it makes us appreciate them even more.

The nice thing though is they will multiply and bring us even more happiness next year!  So long lovely girls, thank you for bringing your sunshine to our home.

Pitter-Patter of the Rain

Pict0042

Clear skies suddenly turn grey and gusts of winds warn us of the incoming rain.

The sound of the pitter-patter has been putting us to sleep at night like a beautiful lullaby and waking us up in the morning like a soothing wakeup call. The grass is a beautiful bright green, with no signs of having been completely covered with snow through the long winter.

I bet if the tulips could sing they would be singing joyful songs; they too are happy to be out of hibernation!  I've walked around our yard and every single tulip bulb we planted last fall has survived. The far back of our yard will be a wave of colors and textures from spring through fall.

Walking out on the deck these spring mornings, with a cup of coffee and a slight chill in the air is everything I've been waiting for; it feels crisp, clean and new.  The darkness diminishes and the season of light increases every day.

Spring-y love to you dear friends!

Growth & Renewal

Pict0001

Spring is full of gifts isn't it?

We purchased a Paper Birch tree and strategically planted it in our front yard.  We placed it right in front of our living room window where we can enjoy it all year.  Birdies love to land on it as they make their way to walk around on the grass or as a reststop to their next destination.

I love seeing the changes with every season.  This is how it looked this weekend.  Every new tiny bud is a welcome wave to spring.  Hello spring, here I come!

That's how we are.  It's good to grow, renew and transform.

Nature often holds up a mirror

so we can see more clearly

the ongoing process of growth, renewal,

and transformation in our lives.

It's Officially Spring: Let's Party!

Pict1434
I have been waiting for spring's arrival and it's finally here!  Yesterday was the first official day of the spring season.  Are you as excited as I am?

Spring is nature's way of saying "Let's Party!"

Last fall we planted about one hundred tulip bulbs in various colors in addition to what we already had and I can't wait to see them make their debut!  We'll have so many this year I may just cut a few of my favorites and place several arrangements throughout the house.

Flowers are sunshine, food and medicine to the soul.

Flowers have an amazing way of making us feel better don't they?  I love their astonishing potential of altering our mood.  Just watch someone receive a bouquet of flowers... it's magical!

{About the photo: taken last spring - the tulip bed is next to our patio and it's going to be overflowing with tulips soon}
