Bring on the Light!

_dsc0829

I walk with camera in hand, eyes wide open, in search of light and there it is... casting beautifuly on a single blade of tall grass. I take several photos from every angle, I forget about my surroundings and engulf myself in a trance. I finally realize this and look around too see if anyone is watching. :)

If you love photography you know light is the single most treasured gift in our photographer hearts.

We adore the magic hour; the first and last hour of sunlight in the day. Everything seems more alive. The world gleams. It's as if a magic brush painted a beautiful glow.

We long for it, we wait for it, we seek it.

Seeking for the luminesce of light and capturing beams of sunrays is one of the reasons I'm continuously inspired to pick up my camera.

How about you? Are you a light seeker?

Now the Heart

_dsc1075

Years from now the heart

Will bear out its journey

And retain the magic

It is always learning.

Years from now the heart

Will listen to silence

And hear reverberations

Deep inside the earth.

The heart will trust itself

To heal, and, when in doubt,

To trace the perimeter

Of its own brilliant soul.

Years from now the heart

Will exist as the perfect

Point of entry for all

The lightness of this world.

To rest, To sleep, To dream

_dsc09151

It's cold outside, the wind is howling and my books are waiting. This is where I put my head down to renew my body and spirit. It's my sanctuary; it's where I rest, sleep and dream.

I cherish this space.

I love to end my days with a little bit of reading.

It's my ritual.

I tend to highlight excerpts I want to remember. Words and phrases that resonate with me. I'll stop and think it through, let it sit with me. I soak it in.

Are you a reader? Do you do this too?

Color with Emotion

_dsc0883

I don't paint. I don't draw worth a darn. I can barely draw a stick figure but I do love to make cards. I color coordinated these happy colors and whipped them up!

Give me pieces of paper (especially pretty colorful ones), a glue stick and some embellishments and I"m a happy girl!  Sparkles, flowers, cardstock, inks, layers, brads... so fun!

Adding the "handmade with love!" stamp is my way of sealing it with a kiss (and a warm hug).

Looking Closer

_dsc08491

I joked on my Facebook Page that I was going on a photograph safari.  I definitely didn't expect to photograph these jewels inbetween the blades of grass. I mean, come on! But I came to a screeching halt when I spotted them.

The light was just right and they sparkled like diamonds. Aren't they lovely?

That's why I love macro photography so much! It opens my eyes to the details that normally get lost in the noise of life.

This is as macro as I can get with my current gear. Guess what's on my wish list? Yep, a macro lens (in addition to a prime zoom lens). It's never too early to start hinting to Santa. *wink-wink*

One Moment in Time

_dsc0803

This was a moment in time from January 1, 2012.

The day was perfect to be nesting at home all day doing nothing. Why would anybody want to be out in the cold? There was a slight breeze and the cold stung against our skin.

It was the first day of the new year and we decided to welcome it with a walk at one of our favorite parks. Everyone must have decided to stay home in their bunny slippers; we were the only people at the park. It was odd but perfect. It was absolutely peaceful.

This photo spoke to me once I saw it on my computer screen. It said, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. It said, reframe your focus. It said, open your eyes. It said, love.

It said... you have many more wonderful moments to live life to the fullest.

52_photos_project_interview

I was fortunate to be interviewed by Bella Cirovic at 52 Photos Project.

I am honored to be featured among women with amazing talent.  We may come from different worlds and backgrounds, use different cameras and styles but the one thing we have in common is our deep love for photography.

Photography tugs at the shirtsleeve of my heart.

When I can't find the words to express how I feel, photography is there for me. When I'm feeling troubled and stressed, photography is there for me. When I'm feeling fascinated with life, photography is there for me. When I'm feeling my heart is full of love, photography is there for me.

Thank you Bella for creating this wonderful community. For taking the time out of your busy life to give us the awesome weekly prompts. Thank you!

Friends, stop by and check out the interview here.  Leave a comment there, here or on my Facebook Page

Just 1 Picture: Favorite Snapshot of the Year

Parents_to_be

Oh what a year this has been!

If I could describe this year in two words it would be... new beginnings.

I chose this picture as one of my favorites of the year because it represents a new life. It represents change and a new beautiful beginning. I took a photo shoot of my sister and her husband during a trip to Texas and in this photo Kayla had not been born.  Today, she's three days shy of one month old. Those beautiful pink shoes will soon have a little girl, eyes wide open, and we will witness her journey as she steps into her new world.

We flip the pages of our book as we continue to write our story. One thing is for certain, life is full of change and new beginnings.

Photo Prompt: Aqua

Arborcrest

This photograph is from the archives but it's one of my favorites of the hubster and my mom. It was during one of her first trips to visit us in Washington.  Coming from Texas, she was in awe of our mild summer weather.  We spent an entire afternoon at a local winery enjoying each other's company.

I stood there watching them as they walked off arm in arm. I sighed, snapped a photo with my heart, then quickly aimed the camera.

The giveaway is still open; it closes tomorrow night. Come on over and put your name in the hat. There's only a few entries so your chances to win are high! :)
